Beauregard Regional Airport Tour

Fort Polk Air Traffic Control Tour
The DAAB Youth Project, along with local Boy Scout Troop 30, spent the day learning about Airport Management & Operations, as well as, the Air Traffic Control System and Air Traffic Controller Careers.
Volunteer Pilots Don Pardon & Dick Anderson, CFII started the day with a few informal classes on flight planning, flying and the important role Air Traffic controllers play in a successful flight.
Sam Lack, Airport Manager, demonstrated the hospitality to be found at Beauregard Regional Airport, with a tour, explaining airport operations.
After a lunch of some great grilled hot dogs , thanks to Sam and volunteers, the group left the airport to tour the Fort Polk Air Traffic Control Center (ATCC) and Control Tower
At ATCC, they learned about the different radar systems and how controllers handled air traffic. The group then climbed up into and toured the Air Traffic Control Tower, where they learned how controllers keep pilots and aircraft safe while maneuvering on the ground and in the vicinity of airports.
A great day for all.....and the Scouts were able to meet several of their Aviation Merit Badge requirements.
